During our time in South Korea, we had a blast wandering through Seoul’s markets with our microphones, recording the lively soundscapes of daily life. Markets are always some of the best places to record ambience and if you pay attention when watching movies, action scenes almost always race through crowded markets. That makes these kinds of recordings incredibly useful later for sound engineers.

Seoul is also a city where countless dramas and international films are shot, so who knows, maybe these exact ambiences will end up in a future production.

This library offers a huge range of atmospheres: In the mornings, shopkeepers prepared their stalls, sweeping, cleaning, and chatting softly in Korean as footsteps echoed through the nearly empty alleys. Later in the day, the markets came alive with vendors sealing packages, customers bargaining, dishes clattering in the food court, and the overlapping rhythm of voices filling the air.

The recordings also include calmer perspectives, like shoppers strolling slowly and chatting casually, as well as the busier roadside ambiences where traffic, vendors, and even the occasional siren blended into the market’s energy. Together, this collection paints a sonic portrait of Seoul’s daily life that feels both intimate and cinematic.

Alongside the stereo files, this collection also includes RAW Double Mid Side (DMS) recordings, recorded with the Schoeps DMS system. These are perfect for anyone working in surround or immersive formats, or for those who want the flexibility to adjust microphone positions before export.

We recommend using the Free Schoeps DMS Plugin to upmix or downmix, unlocking even more creative potential from these recordings.
