Meet Free to Use Sounds

Who would have thought a handy sound recorder in Cambodia would lead us here? Hi there we're Marcel and Libby and every sound on this site has been recorded by us. For nearly 11 years, we've been traveling around the world recording unique sounds for others to use!

Have some questions
that need to be answered?

  • Yes! Our recordings can be used in both personal and commercial projects. Please review our License Agreementfor full details and usage limitations.

  • No, absolutely not.

Reselling our sounds would be a violation of our license agreement and international copyright law. Our sounds are meant to be used in creative projects, not redistributed or sold as standalone assets. Please don't be that person.

  • Good news, we don’t split our ORTF 3D recordings into separate 4-channel files.

Our recordings are delivered as single WAV files containing all 8 channels together.

  • No, our sounds are not licensed for use in sleeping apps. However, we're open to custom licensing solutions! Please contact us here!

  • Yes! ✨ Unlike most sound libraries, we allow you to create and sell sound design libraries using our sounds—as long as they are significantly transformed. For example:

✅ Allowed: Turning a door bang into an explosion or using our sounds as part of a larger sound design project.

❌ Not Allowed: Simply repackaging and reselling our raw, unedited sounds.

  • There are several programs available to help you manage and search for sounds efficiently.

Professional tools like Soundminer or Soundly are great options, but if you’re new to sound organization, Explorer by Soundparticles is a completely free alternative that allows you to find sounds easily using keywords. Give it a try and see what works best for your workflow!

  • Yes, absolutely! As long as you are independent and not an in-house sound designer where multiple employees (potentially hundreds) could access these sounds, you’re free to use them for all your projects.

For in-house teams or studio-wide usage, please reach out to us for licensing options.

  • No. Our sounds cannot be purchased for AI/ML training or research projects. Please contact us directly if you’d like clarification or to discuss licensing options.

  • We continuously update our collection with new recordings from our travels.

Whenever we release an update, we'll send you a newsletter with all the details, including how to  download the latest sounds.

  • We host all our recordings with Gumroad, making it easy to access your sounds. After your  purchase, you'll automatically have an account where you can log in and download this  massive bundle anytime.

Gumroad allows us to offer zip folders up to 20GB, so after downloading, simply unzip the files to access your sounds.

  • Yes! You can connect with us through:

    • Facebook– Join our community and stay updated.

    • YouTube – Watch behind-the-scenes content, gear reviews, and field recording tips.

    • Instagram– Follow our latest travels, sound recordings, and exclusive updates.

  • Our sounds are recorded in high-quality WAV format, using professional equipment with 48kHz  to 192kHz sample rates at 24-bit and 32-bit depth.

  • Yes, absolutely — you can use our original sound recordings inside your own music compositions, ambient projects, videos, films, podcasts, and other creative works.

However, there are a few important limitations:

    •  Simply downloading royalty-free music or AI-generated music, layering our recordings on top, and uploading the result to YouTube, Spotify, or other streaming platforms is not permitted.

    • The recordings should be used as supportive elements within a larger original composition — not as the primary content with only minimal musical additions.

In short: we fully support creative and transformative use of our recordings, but not minimal-effort repackaging or redistribution of our original sound recordings.

  • The Universal Category System (UCS) is designed to bring consistency and structure to the way sound effects are categorized and named. By using a standardized system, it helps streamline the organization of sound libraries, making it easier to search, maintain, and manage sound files across different platforms.

By downloading the UCS folder structure, you can easily organize and locate sound files within their specific categories. For example, a sound recording captured inside an aircraft would be placed in the AIRCRAFT/INTERIOR folder. This structured approach helps maintain consistency across your sound library, making it quicker and more efficient to find the right sound when you need it.

  • If you’re an educator or student looking to use our sound bundle for academic purposes, please check out our For Educators page.

  • We thought long and hard about this and decided to create The Immersive Bundle as a separate product to make it easier for people specifically looking for immersive surround and binaural recordings without having to search through thousands of standard stereo files. This bundle focused entirely on recordings made with the Neumann KU 100 and our Schoeps ORTF 3D setup.

Considering the amount of traveling, editing, organization, metadata work, and over $35,000 worth of immersive recording equipment involved, we still believe the current price makes this an incredibly accessible deal for anyone interested in immersive audio.
