Bangkok Long Tail Boat Sound Library
This sound library from Bangkok documents long tail boat journeys along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, recorded during sunset and into early evening.
I recorded these from inside the boat, focusing on close onboard perspectives with detailed engine textures, wake movement, and the surrounding river ambience. The collection includes short crossings, extended runs along the river, solo rides, and dual-boat passes, capturing how the soundscape changes as the light fades and river traffic shifts.
You can hear distant city activity, passing boats, and shoreline reflections evolving naturally throughout each take, creating a sense of continuous motion rather than isolated sound events.
All recordings were made using a Sony PCM-D100 and a Schoeps ORTF stereo setup with a Cinela windshield, creating an immersive collection of river and engine recordings from one of Bangkok’s primary transportation corridors. These recordings are definitely some of my most memorable. There is something really special about realizing you are in one of the biggest cities in the world while sitting on a small long tail boat moving slowly up and down the river during sunset. Watching the light fade across Bangkok while listening to the engine, water movement, and the surrounding city atmosphere made these recordings a really unique experience for me.
