Recording Subway Trains & Metro Ambience in Tbilisi Georgia
Welcome to the fourth subway system of the former Soviet Union.
During our 1.5 month stay in the capital of Georgia Tbilisi, I was able to record the sounds of the subway and underground stations.
This is by far one of the most detailed underground sound libraries I have ever recorded and I enjoy being in such unique places to record and archive the ambience.
This new Metro sound library contains 53 different tracks and is almost 10 GB in size. I recorded the ambiance of almost all subway stations except the one at Akhmeteli theater.
I recorded the arrivals, departures, and pas by of the trains inside the underground train stations but also outside like Didube.
Depending on the station, it was busy, quiet, empty, and sometimes very eerie. Rustaveli, for example, is a metro station that is 60 meters underground. Recording the escalator going up and down was a joy.
In addition to the ambience in the train station, I also recorded the interior of various subways while driving. Some trains had the windows open and some don’t. Sometimes the trains are full of people and sometimes empty. Every time I took a new train, I recorded a new sound experience.
If you hear the sounds the first time and you haven’t been to a city like Tbilisi, I hope it gives you the same excitement that I felt. These sounds are great for post-production, video games but also for sound design.
