Kaohsiung Ferry Ambience and Industrial Port Sounds

We recorded this series of sounds while riding a lesser-known ferry route from Zhong Zhou to Qianzhen Ferry Station in the Qijin District of Kaohsiung. As the ferry moved through the harbor, we passed towering container ships near Piers 63 and 65, surrounded by the industrial pulse of one of Taiwan’s busiest ports.

The atmosphere was a blend of deep engine hums, splashing waves against the hull, and subtle mechanical rhythms echoing across the water. The setting sun added a warm glow to the industrial scene, creating a surreal contrast between nature and machinery.

We continued recording at the pier and during the ferry’s final departure, capturing the loading of passengers, motorbikes, and cars, and the low rumble as the vessel pulled away. These recordings offer an authentic slice of Kaohsiung’s working harbor and the unique character of its ferry system.
