Back in 2018 we traveled to Porto, Portugal and experienced the traditional festival of Queima das Fitas. As a sound recordist, I knew I had to take advantage of this unique opportunity to record the vibrant and lively soundscapes of the festival crowds.

Upon arriving in Porto, I immediately made my way to the festival grounds and was amazed by the sheer number of people in attendance.

The energy was electric and the atmosphere was amazing. I knew I had to get started!

I used the Roland Binaural microphones and the good old Zoom H1 to record the festival crowd. These budget binaural microphones are great for recording a stereo experience, making you feel more immersed in the environment.

I walked through the crowds, weaving in and out of the throngs of people and capturing the sound of their chatter, laughter, and cheering.

The soundscape was truly incredible. I recorded large crowd noise, cheering, screaming, chanting, and singing students, clapping sounds, footsteps, and the sound of drums and trumpets playing in the background. The festival also featured a parade, and I was able to capture the sound of the marching band’s drums, trumpets, and whistles.

But my recording journey in Porto didn’t stop there.

I also ventured into the streets of the city to record the ambience of the markets and streets. I recorded the sound of people chatting and passing by, students singing in the streets, cars passing by, footsteps, construction in the background, street musicians, car honks, and police sirens.

Whether you’re working on a film, video game, or any other project, these crowd and Portugal Ambience sound effects from Porto, Portugal will bring a sense of realism and immersion to your work..
