Recording protest marching sounds in Lisbon, Portugal

“Friday for Future” is an international movement initiated by Greta Thunberg in August 2018. Students and activists all over the world gather on Fridays to protest and demand action to prevent further climate change.

While we were living in Lisbon, our friend Miguel told us about the upcoming climate strike, so we joined the demonstration to record the sounds of the crowd.

The sounds of people united for a cause can be heard from a distance and the atmosphere was filled with energy and passion, and it was a peaceful and nonviolent protest.

People were shouting, singing, playing musical instruments, and using megaphones to amplify their voices.
We recorded in multiple locations, starting at Praça Luís de Camões, walking along Calçada do Combro, and ending the march in front of the Assembly of the Republic (the parliament building) of Lisbon.

We captured sounds from different distances, ranging from 50 to 200 meters away, to provide a different perspective of the sound field. We hope our archived recordings can be used in many productions for years to come.
