Recording ambience at the busiest crosswalk in the world! Shibuya, Tokyo
After several weeks of traveling through Japan in our rented camper, we finally made it back to Tokyo. We explored several restaurants and parts of this gigantic metropolis. Could I live in Tokyo?
I don’t know because it’s one of the busiest places I’ve ever been. It’s very exhausting and hectic in a confined space. Later that day we came to Shibuya and it’s the busiest zebra crossing in the world. It’s fascinating just to be here for a brief moment.
I wish I had more time to record here, but there’s always a next time.
You have to experience the ambience for yourself if you ever make it to Japan but until then you can access this mini sound library from Japan.
Shops, flashing billboards, the music, the traffic, and of course the people talking and walking at the same time.
For the recordings, I used the good old Zoom H6 together with a pair of DPA 4060 and walked up and down the street with the people several times.
If you’ve seen the movie Hachiko with Richard Gere, the real Hachiko statue is right next to the entrance to Shibuya station.
