Dawn Sound Effects recorded before sunrise in La Réunion

These clever creatures have been flocking to us, and for one reason – they’re master thieves! That’s right, they’ve been raiding our neighbor’s chicken dishes, which is just fowl play if you ask me. 🙂

But it’s not just the vibrant colors of these feathered friends that are a sight to behold. Watching them perch and plot, waiting to pounce on any seeds they can find, is a true feast for the eyes. The chickens and roosters may put up a good fight, but they just can’t keep up with the sheer speed and cunning of these airborne bandits.

The soundscape here is a symphony of barking dogs, mid-day rooster calls (seriously, no watch needed), and the honking of ducks. It’s all happening in the small village of Etang-Salé les Hauts, nestled in the hills with stunning views of the Indian Ocean.

Our time in La Reunion was short, but the memories we made there will last a lifetime. When I listen to the sounds we recorded, it’s like being transported back to that small island, to the temporary home we made for ourselves.

The sounds of La Reunion

It was a hideout from the rest of the world, a sanctuary where we could find peace and comfort. But now, listening to those sounds, I’m filled with a sense of loss and longing for a time and a place that can never be again.
