Recording Slide Projector Sounds with an original 1972 Eastman Kodak “Carousel!”
When we visited Libby’s family in Iowa I found an old Eastman Kodak slide projector in their basement. I plugged it into the wall, turned it on, and it worked perfectly (even with all the dust surrounding it!) If we don’t archive these types of recordings then we forget about an era with amazing foley sounds to be used in post-production and sound design. I felt it was my duty to capture this sound for all present and future uses!
In this recording, you can hear the very present fan noise, the sound of the slides being inserted into the slots, and the cycling of the slides on the carousel.
The equipment I used to record this session was with a Zoom H6 and attached the XY microphone.
