We had the opportunity to live in Seoul and purchased the top-notch DPA 4560 binaural in-ear microphones. One night, I ventured out on a mission to record the unique night ambiance in one of my favorite districts of Seoul – Jung-Gu.
I recorded the sound of a restaurant owner cleaning up after the customers left, with the hum of an old air conditioner in the background.
Next, I visited a street where you’ll find the famous Pojangmacha, a street food stall that you may have seen in many K-dramas. I captured the sounds of people sitting outside and inside, drinking, and chatting.
As I walked down the street, I stumbled upon a small restaurant, reminiscent of the K-Drama “Vincenzo.” I recorded the sounds of plates being moved, a chef greeting a new guest, and doors closing loudly in the background. Right next to it, I also recorded the sounds of people chatting and a chef emptying a basket of water into the street. This sound alone, while staring into the dark, low-light alleyway, made this a fantastic experience.
Continuing on, I recorded the busy and crowded atmosphere on the other side of the main road, where hundreds of people gathered inside and outside the restaurants to drink and chat, creating a lively ambiance.
I eventually made my way back to the hotel and recorded the sounds of people walking, cars waiting at the intersection, and an ambulance siren in the distance.
Not far from our hotel, I also recorded the sounds of laughter, chatter, and glass movements as people enjoyed their night.
Jung-gu is a district located in the heart of Seoul, known for its rich history and culture, as well as its bustling commercial and shopping areas. It is also famous for its vibrant nightlife, with many bars, clubs, and restaurants catering to the city’s young and trendy crowds.
Pojangmacha, on the other hand, are street food stalls that offer a unique and lively atmosphere for eating, drinking, and socializing.
I hope these recordings offer a glimpse into the vibrant and bustling nightlife of Seoul, capturing the sounds of Jung-Gu and the unique atmosphere of Pojangmacha. They are a must-have for any project needing street-life sound effects or for adding a touch of authenticity to your collection. I’m confident that you’ll hear these sounds in future K-Dramas and other productions that take place in Jung-Gu.
