At our home near the rainforest in Bali, we were surrounded by the sounds of the insect world. One night, as the sun set, we were treated to a mesmerizing display as thousands of insects flew to the nearest light source and formed a swarm that lasted for several hours.
The next morning, we saw the aftermath of the swarm and the clean-up process as hungry geckos, birds, ants, and spiders came to feast on the fallen insects. We also observed the “nature police” (ants) as they worked together to clean up the carnage of wings covering the floor.
We used great handy equipment to record the unique sounds of the insects and the swarm. Our setup included a Zoom H6 and a pair of Micro USI Pro by LOM microphones, which allowed us to record the wings and vibrations of the insects up close. We also experimented with the Limpet contact microphones and mixed the recordings with other sounds such as cicadas, frogs, dogs, and chickens for a truly authentic experience.
Join us on a journey to the heart of Bali, where we recorded the sounds of the insect world in its natural habitat. From the buzz of the swarm to the rustling of the ant highway, this audio will transport you to a world filled with the sounds of nature.
Who would have thought a handy sound recorder in Cambodia would lead us here?
Hi there we’re Marcel and Libby and every sound on this site has been recorded by us. For nearly 7 years, we’ve been traveling around the world recording unique sounds for others to use!
