Free Sai Kung Sounds
fishing town west of hong kong

In 2020, Libby and I were fortunate enough to spend a little over two weeks in the heart of Hong Kong. During this time, we found ourselves captivated by the city’s unique blend of speed, chaos, and tranquility, which inspired us to capture a myriad of sounds that now make up our Hong Kong Sounds Collection.

One site that captured our fascination was Sai Kung. Nestled in the west, this enchanting fishing town was a true treasure trove of sounds. From the chirping of birds in the harbor, the gentle ebb and flow of the water against the boats, to the engaging chatter of fishermen selling their fresh catches, the sounds of Sai Kung were as captivating as they were varied.
As the day rolled into night, Sai Kung transformed.

The lively atmosphere of the daytime gave way to an equally vibrant evening scene, where the sound of people enjoying meals at open-air fish restaurants added a new layer to the already rich Sai Kung soundscape.
These soundscapes are set in a time before the world was reshaped by a significant global event, which cut our time in Hong Kong short.

Yet, these sounds stand as a timeless testament to the city’s unique vibe. Embark on a sonic exploration of Sai Kung with our Hong Kong Sounds Collection.

Be sure to check out more sounds on our Ambience page and this Hong Kong Ferries Sound Library.
